Black-fruited wolfberry (scientific name: Lycium ruthenicum Murr.) is a multi-thorn shrub belonging
to the family Solanaceae and Lycium barbarum. It can reach a height of 150 cm and is multi-branched.
It is hard and has irregular vertical stripes. The tops of the branchlets taper into thorns and the
internodes are short. Shrunk, with leaves in clusters or flowers and leaves in clusters at the same time.
On young branches, single leaves are alternate, thick and fleshy, the top is blunt, the base is tapered,
the midrib is not obvious, the flowers are on short branches; the pedicel is thin and the calyx is narrow
and bell-shaped. , corolla is funnel-shaped, light purple, lobes are oblong-ovate, and the ears are
not obvious; style and stamens are nearly equal in length.The berries are purple-black, spherical,
and brown. They bloom and bear fruit from May to October.

Distributed in northern Shaanxi, Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai, Xinjiang and Tibet in China;
also found in Central Asia, Caucasus and Europe.It is drought tolerant and often grows
in saline-alkali soil wasteland, sandy land or roadside.

Black wolfberry can be used as a shrub for soil and water conservation.
