Valerian (Latin scientific name: Valeriana officinalis L.) Valeriana officinalis is a perennial cold-resistant, flowering, herbaceous plant, up to 120 cm tall.

Valerian is native to parts of Asia and Europe, and is cultivated in North America.Its stems and leaves are used as food by the larvae of some Lepidopteran species (butterflies and moths).The rhizome and roots of valerian are used medicinally to dispel wind, relieve spasm, and treat bruises and injuries.Also available as a dietary supplement.
