Describe:
Bupleurum, the name of traditional Chinese medicine. It is a herbal medicine included in "Chinese Pharmacopoeia", and the medicinal part is the dried root of Bupleurum bupleuri or Bupleurum angustifolia. Excavated in spring and autumn, removed stems, leaves and sediment, and dried. Bupleurum is commonly used to relieve symptoms. Also known as Dixun, Shancai, Mushroom Grass, and Firewood, it is bitter in nature and slightly cold, and returns to the Liver and Gallbladder Meridians. It has the effects of reconciling the exterior and interior, soothing the liver and promoting yang. For cold and fever, alternating cold and heat, malaria, liver depression and Qi stagnation, sternocostal pain, anal prolapse, uterine prolapse, and irregular menstruation.
Bupleurum root contains volatile oil, bupleurum alcohol, oleic acid, linolenic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, lignoceric acid, glucose and saponins, etc. Among the saponins are saikosaponins a, c, d, saikosaponin F, E, G, and longigenin. It is also reported that saikoside is separated from roots and seeds, which is a general term for various glycosides. Golden Bupleurum contains rutin, ribitol, nonadhenone, hexacyl alcohol, α-pineosterol, flavonols, saponins, alkaloids, ascorbic acid, carotene, etc. During the flowering and fruiting period, quercetin, isoquercitrin, rutin, isorhamnetin and isorhamnetin-3-rutinoside can be obtained from flowers, leaves and stems. Bupleurum root contains saikoside, α-spinasterol, sucrose and polyacetylene compounds.
